Villa Vallecito Lining System Installation

Project Summary:

Thunder Mountain Enterprises, Inc. was contracted by Villa Vallecito Vineyards to install an irrigation water geosynthetic lining system. The customer's primary objective was to contain runoff water for dry season irrigation. The customer's secondary objective was to maintain the natural esthetic look and feel of the pond.

In additional to the two primary objectives a number of other objectives had to be met to provide the customer with a professional system. These included a sump system to relieve any natural spring water from under the liner, inlet protection to prevent under scouring, textured lining material to allow for wildlife to egress out of the pond, installation of a turf reinforcement mat as means to mask the lining material at the freeboard and installation of the proper erosion control products (BMP's) to help prevent erosion and allow for quick establishment of native vegetation.

The lining material chosen for this job was textured 60 mil high density poly ethylene. This material contains carbon black, an important property to help protect against ultraviolet radiation. The material was heat fusion welded in the field to create a monolithic bond. These welds where then tested using ASTM pressure testing methods to insure a leak proof system. The primary benefit of textured material is to provide additional friction between wildlife paws / hooves and the material.

Thunder Mountain Enterprises, Inc. was able to complete the job within three weeks to the complete satisfaction of the co-owner of Villa Vallecito Vineyards.
